All members initially trying out will be required to register first with the club as a $50 "Non-Competitive Athlete" (fill in out the Online Huskies Registration Form (Part 1) before the first practice). Payment via Interac e-Transfer (pay@newmarkethuskiestrack.ca) or cash. Any subsequent registration after the tryout period will have the initial $50 applied toward that.
For prospective new members any decision to join the club will be based
on:
o ATTENDANCE at a few initial WORKOUTS,
o TALENT ASSESSMENT BY AT LEAST TWO COACHES taking into consideration
the Ontario Step Up To Excellence Program ENTRY LEVEL TIME STANDARDS as well
as how their ability level compares with their peer group within the
club,
o INTERVIEW with a Coach and parent(s), as applicable,
o YOUR COMMITMENT and PASSION for distance running,
o KEEN DESIRE to COMPETE, and
o STRONG COMMITMENT FOCUS to:
- COMMUNICATIONS (both ways)
- Being RESPECTFUL of other people and property.
- Being a TEAM PERSON
- EXECUTION OF TRAINING PROGRAM
- CONSISTENT WORK EFFORT
- Meeting other CLUB EXPECTATIONS such as FUNDRAISING,
as appropriate
Note:
The earliest age group considered in 2024 will be those born in 2013.
Club Entry Performance Standards
o ATOM (MTA) (2012 to 2013), SENIOR MINOR (MTA) (2010 to 2011), U14 (AO) (2011 to 2013)- No standard
o
U16 (2009 to 2010), U18 (2007 to 2008) - Standard of 10 seconds higher (new members) or 5 seconds higher (returning members) than the 1500m Level 1 event for the respective age/gender as noted under the Athletics Ontario Step Up To Excellence Program (to be achieved at a club time trial) OR achievement of any Level 1 or higher standard in a distance event in 2022.
o U20 (2005 & 2006), SENIORS & MASTERS (2004+) - Coach's decision
